Slovenia's Jansa Elected Prime Minister for Fourth Term in Office

(MENAFN) Slovenia's parliament elected Janez Jansa as prime minister Friday, clearing the path for the veteran Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) leader to embark on an unprecedented fourth term at the helm of the country.

Lawmakers voted 51–36 in favor of Jansa's nomination to form a government, a Slovenian news agency reported. He is now expected to lead Slovenia's 16th government once his cabinet is formally constituted.

In brief remarks following the parliamentary vote, Jansa called the outcome an "...important step towards a more successful and freer Slovenia," pledging to uphold the constitutional order and dedicate his administration to the country's prosperity.

Speaking to reporters afterward, Jansa said coalition negotiations over ministerial appointments would commence Monday, adding that he anticipates the new government will be sworn in within a fortnight.
